Design education and employment The UK leads the world in design education. There are approximately 840 design courses in the UK. The UK has the most design students in Europe and is ranked fourth in the world. In total, 7 per cent of all students in UK higher education were enrolled in a creative arts & design course in 2011/12. These numbers have been steadily growing over the last five years. In 2010, there were approximately 55000 undergraduates studying design in the UK. The UK has some of the best design schools in the world. They include the London College of Communication, Central Saint Martin’s College of Art and Design, Saïd Business School - University of Oxford, and the Royal College of Art. UK universities have developed cutting-edge multidisciplinary programmes that link business and design. For example, at Imperial College London, design has been incorporated in the MBA delivered with the Royal College of Art. According to DCMS statistics from July 2018, there were approximately 160,000 product, graphic and fashion design jobs in the UK creative economy.
