New 'War and PeacE' finds international favour


BBC Worldwide announced, ahead of its 40th annual Showcase event in Liverpool (February 22nd– 24th), that Russia’s major free to air broadcaster Channel One and a host of other international broadcasters have acquired the ambitious adaptation of Leo Tolstoy's 'War and Peace'.

As well as Russia, the critically-acclaimed series, which had a weekly series average of 7.2 million viewers in the UK, has been sold to multiple territories across Asia, including China (LeEco), Taiwan (ELTA), India (Vuclip), South Korea (KBS and SK) and Philippines (ABS and CBN).

Back in Europe it has also sold to France (France 2), Finland (YLE), Norway (NRK), Iceland (RUV), Latvia (LTV) and Ukraine (TRBC).

They'll join millions of viewers around the world who have been enthralled by Andrew Davies’s stunning interpretation of War and Peace.”

'War and Peace', a production from BBC Cymru Wales Drama, in partnership with The Weinstein Company and BBC Worldwide/Lookout Point, will be available to international buyers attending BBC Worldwide’s Showcase event.

Showcase is the world’s largest international television market hosted by a single distributor and the three-day event is attended by over 700 of the world’s top TV buyers, award-winning producers and on-screen talent.

'War and Peace' was adapted by award-winning scriptwriter Andrew Davies ('House of Cards', 'Pride and Prejudice'), directed by Tom Harper and featuring a star-studded line-up including Paul Dano ('12 Years A Slave'), Lily James ('Downton Abbey') and James Norton ('Happy Valley').

BBC Worldwide previously announced the series had been presold to Estonia (ETV), Greece (OTE), Lithuania (LNK), Israel (YES), Australia, Benelux (BBC First), Sweden (SVT) and Denmark (TV2). The Weinstein Company has licensed the series to the flagship channels of A+E Networks – Lifetime, A&E, and HISTORY – in the USA.
